Tuesday 17th April 2018 – Astley Mining Museum.

Thanks to all who turned out, in not the best of weather, for the first of 2018’s Mid-week Rides. Starting from the car park of The Golden Pheasant in Plumley we made our way round a small corner of Cheshire, taking in some of the minor roads and small villages of the area. The route took us through Lower Peover, Toft, Mobberley, and through the Manchester Airport runway tunnels. From there it was back through Ashley and Rostherne, over the Warburton toll bridge (no charge for motorcycles!), up through Glazebrook, Culcheth and a short stint down the East Lancs Road to the Old Boat House pub for lunch.

After lunch we arrived at the Mining Museum ( https://lancashireminingmuseum.org/ ) and met up with members from Central Lancs, East Lancs and North West Sections (apologies if I missed out any others). We were treated to a guided tour around the restored Engine Shed dating from 1910 and containing two huge steam engines used to drive the winding gear, The oldest remaining examples in Europe.

It was good to welcome two new section members out today, thanks Geoff and Les, and we look forward to seeing more of you out on forthcoming runs. Also thanks to Adrian Such, secretary for Central Lancs Section for organising the event - hopefully to be repeated next year?

Check out the calendar and the home page on our website and there are always reminders at clubnight.
